Mark Grebner, Alan Fox and their employees began building the statewide voter file for Wisconsin in 1999. It took about 15 months to collect and input all the base voter history and contact data. Efforts since then have focused on refining the foundation data, collecting new information and enhancing it.
Wisconsin Voter Lists takes great care and goes to great lengths to ensure that our data is accurate and complete. Building on our many years of working with Michigan voters we regularly obtain and convert several hundred computerized voter lists from towns, cities, villages and counties. All these sources together, though, include only about 52% of all the voters in Wisconsin. Getting the rest has required copying, digitally photographing and hand-keying in over two million sheets of hand-written records - so far.
Creating a reliable statewide voter file is the sole purpose of our business and the high quality of our data is clearly evident when you use a file. We clean up and improve data from municipalities with computerized voting records, as well as those with paper poll sheets. Because we regularly check change of address filings and other sources of updated information, our contact data is often more accurate than the municipality has itself. In addition, we make sure that deceased people are removed from the file, that duplicates are collapsed into one record with a consolidated voter history (not fragmented over several similar records), and we have phone numbers, gender and age information.
